Water pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues in the Philippines, with rivers and waterways often filled with plastics and other debris. Addressing this problem requires innovative, affordable, and sustainable solutions. Our project, FLOWS (Floating Litter Optimized Waste System), was created to help reduce this challenge by combining renewable energy, simple engineering, and basic automation.
MISSION
The purpose of FLOWS (Floating Litter Optimized Waste System) is to create a sustainable floating waste collection system that minimizes water pollution, guards aquatic habitats, and helps communities in managing cleaner and safer waterways. It aims to build a sustainable future where rivers, lakes, and other water bodies are free from floating rubbish and promoted to be healthier ecosystems, safer communities, and a cleaner environment for future generations.
VISION
Flows protects the environment by removing floating waste from waterways before it can harm ecosystems or spread pollution, helping to prevent contamination of bodies of water and protecting aquatic plants and animals that depend on clean water to survive. Our project Flows is a solar-powered floating waste collector designed to gather debris in waterways using a lifebuoy-supported frame, solar panel, and dual motors for mobility. Furthermore, Flows is cost-effective, eco-friendly, and designed to demonstrate the practical use of renewable energy in addressing pollution.
mEANING
Waves remind us that beauty is found in motion β in the gentle flow between calm and chaos. Our theme embraces that rhythm, weaving together light, color, and emotion into a mesmerizing current of glamour. Itβs a celebration of transformation, connection, and endless elegance β a reminder that, like the sea, we are all reflections of strength, serenity, and luminous depth.

Once a symbol of life and livelihood, the Bulungan River in ParaΓ±aque now struggles under the weight of pollution and neglect. What was once a source of pride and sustenance for local fishermen has become a dumping ground for plastic and waste.
Last Friday, October 10, our team went on a journey to see the Bulungan River in ParaΓ±aque β a place once known for its bustling fish market and vibrant community life. What we saw, however, told a different story. The river, instead of flowing freely and cleanly, was choked with plastic bottles, food wrappers, and other waste. It was heartbreaking to see how something so vital to the cityβs history and livelihood has become a victim due to human negligence.
Every bottle thrown, every plastic bag discarded, and every piece of trash left behind finds its way into the river. These small acts of carelessness accumulate into something much larger; clogged waterways, dying fish, foul odors, and floods that destroy homes and livelihoods. The Bulungan River is crying out for help, and itβs time we listen.
We can all do something β whether itβs as simple as properly disposing of waste, joining local clean-up drives, or educating others about environmental responsibility. Letβs not wait for another flood, another dead fish, or another reminder
of what weβve lost. Letβs clean Bulungan. Letβs clean ParaΓ±aque. Letβs clean our future.
